LOTF Literary Device/Figurative Language Scramble Part II

YEAH! Here we will post our findings of literary devices and figurative language. Be sure to:
- Identify what literary device it is
- Use proper citation

*Remember, this is a first come, first serve basis, so we cannot repeat examples. You must read your colleagues' responses before you post.

**AND... this time around we cannot repeat literary devices. For example, if Hubert provides an example of imagery, there will be no other examples of imagery. As there are 13 of us, we will see 13 different types of literary devices/figurative language.

Good luck

Apostrophe: " Simon spoke aloud to the clearing."What else is there to do?"". This scene tells us of Simon's desperation of the Lord's power over the boys. He resigns himself to the savage society they have formed

"A view to death" chapter's 9 name. It has word choic which influences foreshadowing. Makes us to understand that somebody is going to die as "a" is article to resemble specific fact.

Aptronym:

Piggy is a name that describes a short, fat, glutenous person, which can not be leader because he doesn't have respect from the other boys mainly of his look. Piggy is also a name that can describe a cautious, smart person that will try to stay away from trouble. Piggy was the name of one of the boys on the island, his name gives us a lot of information on what the boy is like and his character. Piggy wasn't very respected, he was fat, short, smart and cautious so his name fits him in very ironic way.

Word choice/Metaphor: "A brassy glare". Author used a word brassy to show how the sunset was looking like, how the sky was looking like in the evening.

p.129.

The”lord of the Flies” is the name given to the pigs head that jack’s tribe impale on a sharpened stick and put in the forest as an offering to the beast. The pig’s head is an example of personification as it is presented as a separate entity, not simply the head of a dead animal.

"I don't like them cloud. Remember how it rained just after we landed" the rain represents the negativity that piggy had, and because it was raining again you can see that the negativity from when he just arrived to the island have came back in chapter 9. this Symbolism.
